A Plaid Cymru MS dropped into a Reuse Shop in Blaenau Gwent to hear about their work in reducing landfill.

Peredur Owen Griffiths visited The Den, a Wastesavers facility on Roseheyworth Household Waste Recycling Centre in Abertillery, to meet staff and hear about their work.

The Den Reuse Shop opened in 2021 and has quickly become popular with local residents as a place to donate unwanted items as well as pick up a bargain.

In August alone, they prevented 9,398 kgs of various items from going to landfill. They are currently supporting the local primary school with items in their Reuse Project.

During the visit, Peredur met with Wastesavers Charity Manager Alun Harries.

Peredur said: “It is great to see the difference that Wastesavers is making with these premises in Abertillery – their first in Blaenau Gwent, with a second one planned for next year at the New Vale site in Ebbw Vale.

“They are helping the environment by preventing masses of items from going to landfill. They are also getting involved with a number of great local causes, providing help to those that most need it.”

Peredur added: “They are often on the lookout for items for donation but check ahead before making a trip because some days they are unable to accept items if they are full to capacity.”
