A Plaid Cymru MS has welcomed his party hosting a conference to discuss issues important to valleys communities.
Peredur Owen Griffiths MS said the event for party members, activists and councillors on November 18 in Merthyr was an opportunity to come together, discuss problems in the valleys and craft potential solutions.
The idea is that the event, which will feature elected politicians including leader Rhun ap Iorwerth, will generate policy ideas for implementation in the coming years.
Peredur, who will also be attending the event at Theatr Soar, said: “The best way to represent our communities and the people that live in them is to stay in touch and talk with them. This is why I regularly hold street surgeries across my region.
“If I am to represent people to the best of my ability, I need to stay in touch with people.
“Plaid Cymru has always been a party that is rooted in the communities it represents and the Valleys Conference later this month is an extension of that philosophy.
“The conference will bring together people from all levels of the party so that we can discuss the issues and problems we see in towns and villages. Hopefully we can come up with potential solutions as a result.
“I hope this exercise will inform the work of the Senedd group and provide ideas for manifestos over the coming years.
“It also sends out a clear message that Plaid Cymru is listening to the valleys and that we care.”
