Reacting to the news that four faults were detected in a safety system for a train involved in a fatal crash, a Plaid Cymru MS called for “lessons to be learnt.”
Peredur Owen Griffiths, who is the Plaid Cymru spokesperson for Transport, was reacting after an investigation into the crash involving two trains near Llanbrynmair, Powys, in October last year.
The Rail Accident Investigation Branch’s investigation found safety checks on the train braking system were not carried out because the train was parked next to a platform, restricting access for the driver to inspect it.
In response to the findings, Peredur said: “I sincerely hope that lessons are learnt from this.
“Had the checks been carried out then the accident may have been prevented. I will be seeking assurances from the Labour Transport Minister that procedures will tighten as a result of the findings of this investigation.”
