A Plaid Cymru MS has said his party’s plan to turn around the NHS in Wales should be implemented swiftly.
Peredur Owen Griffiths MS said the five-point plan has the potential to address the crisis within the NHS which has been characterised by long delays in A&E, huge waiting lists and a striking workforce.
Today, Plaid Cymru unveiled the plan which will link in with a health debate in the Senedd tomorrow which Peredur will speak in.
The measures include, but are not limited to:
1.Pay: Providing a fair deal for NHS workers to create the foundation for a sustainable health and care service.
2.Workforce Retention: Making our NHS an attractive place to work.
3.Prevention: Significantly elevating the prominence and priority given to preventative health measures.
4.Health and Social Care Interaction: Taking a sustainable approach to ensure a seamless service.
5.Delivering the Recovery: Creating a resilient health and care service fit for the future.
Peredur said: “The Labour Government has refused to acknowledge the crisis within the NHS. I am hoping they will quickly realise the extent of the problems that NHS staff are telling us about on a regular basis.
“These proposals have the potential to make a real difference for staff and patients alike. Doing nothing – which has been Labour’s modus operandi for too long – is no longer an option.
“Labour are eager to point their finger at Westminster – who deserve to be blamed – but are less than keen to focus on the positive changes they can make.
“For the sake of patients and staff, I hope the Labour Government adopts these policies swiftly. The downturn in the NHS must be acknowledged and addressed as soon as possible to prevent any further damage to a much-loved institution.”
